Story of Chico
It all started in dad's shop on the Zuni reservation in New Mexico. I was only 12 and didn't know any better, so my father's materials were wasted quite frequently on ridiculous creations, I would build dog homes for friends in the neighborhood of my grandmother, Clean the yard and tend the gardens while other children played on the streets . I would help my uncles repair furniture or create works of art with scrap lumber and metal. I would also watch my dad as he replaced the plumbing or build sheds. My weekends from school would always be spent at the ranch or doing outside work, It is through my father I had learned the discipline and the true meaning of hard work. It is through my mother that I have learned to be kind and thoughtful, to live the way of the Zuni people which is generosity, faith, respect, and discipline.
When I first moved to Logan Utah with my new wife I didn't know where to start, so my father in-law convinced me to go into McDonalds as he was an owner operator and a very successful businessman. It was through Mickie D's I'd learn how to manage and run a business.... so then it began. I would wake up at 3am to be at work by 4am and serve coffee and breakfast to the working class which I dearly enjoyed. For four years I had the most wonderful experience in customer service. In-between the fast food life and mine, I would do small jobs on the side to make extra cash and take apprenticeship opportunities.
Pretty soon I fell back in love with building and creating so the construction life began. I worked for a small company whom soon became my second family. In between my job and family I would take the time to learn how to actually do more with my hands then just basic carpentry. I studied furniture tile framing drywall roofing and so on till I decided, Look dude you have all the skills to manage a business, you have the tools, you have the training, why not start a small handyman business and see where it takes you?
Here I am today doing what I do best taking great care of my customers, and creating with my two hands.
The name Chico stuck with me from a Mexican lady I worked with who constantly told me I looked like a little boy even though I was 25 at the time. I named my company after that specific nick-name because no one ever believes the age I give them which for the most part most people wouldn't believe I would start a small business. So leads us to the conclusion, always believe in yourself work hard and keep smiling even through the hard days.
